1. ТОМСКИЙ КРЕМЛЬ (Tomsk Kremlin)
The kremlin on the bank of the Tom River was built in 1604 – the history of Tomsk began with it. Almost 40 years later, it burned down and a new one was built in its place with 7-meter-tall walls, towers, the residence of the governor and other structures. It was deemed as unnecessary at the end of the 18th century and dismantled, but, today, it is actively being restored.
2. СИБИРСКИЙ КЕДР (Siberian cedar)
Pine nuts are rich in valuable fats and microelements and are very nutritious. Tomsk Region is one of the main centers of their extraction in Russia. Cedar forests there occupy an area of 3.5 million hectares in the region. There is even a city called Kedrovy (‘Cedar one’). Nuts are also used to make candies, jam and other sweets.
3. ВАСЮГАНСКИЕ БОЛОТА (Vasyugan swamps)
Tomsk Region also has huge Vasyugan swamps, which are larger in area than Switzerland or the Netherlands! By binding carbon, they actively combat the greenhouse effect on the planet.
