1. ЛЕВ ТОЛСТОЙ (Leo Tolstoy)

The famous Russian writer was born on September 9, 1828, on the Yasnaya Polyana Family Estate near Tula. He spent a significant part of his life there and it’s also where he created his main novels, including ‘War and Peace’ and ‘Anna Karenina’. His grave is also located on the territory. And, since 1921, a museum dedicated to the writer has been operating in the estate.

2. ФИЛИМОНОВСКАЯ ИГРУШКА (Filimonovo toy)

Whistle toys began to be made in the village of Filimonovo near Tula back in the 16th century. Over time, the popularity of these human and animal figurines with elongated bodies and conical heads spread far beyond the Tula province. After the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, the craft died out for a while, but was revived again in the 1980s.

3. ТУЛЬСКИЙ ПРЯНИК (Tula gingerbread)

Tula gingerbread is considered to be the “king” of all Russian gingerbreads. The classic Tula gingerbread is rectangular, glazed on the top with an apple jam filling. However, in recent years, the range of fillings has been steadily growing: cranberry, plum, cherry, etc…
