Some things in Russian are named after foreign women

Alexander Kislov, Natalya Nosova
Footwear, tools, games and many other things are designated by the same words as women from Czechia, the U.S. and Hungary.

‘Amerikanka’ (an American woman) is a type of billiards game. ‘Bolgarka’ (a Bulgarian woman), meanwhile, is an angle grinder. ‘Vengerka’ (a Hungarian woman) is a type of plum. ‘Vietnamki’ (Vietnamese) and ‘cheshki’ (Czech women) are types of footwear.

In Russian, the suffix ‘-ka’ typically indicates the feminine gender (e.g., ‘студент’ – ‘студентка’ / ‘male student’ – ‘female student’), forms deverbal nouns (e.g., ‘стричь’ – ‘стрижка’ / ‘to cut’ – ‘a haircut’) and creates nouns from phrases to save time.
