Russia's wildlife ABC: Kabarga
A miniature deer with fangs living in the Russian Far East.
К – Кабарга
The musk deer is a small deer (weighing only 10–15 kg) that has curved fangs instead of antlers. However, only males have them. It lives in the remote, dense forests of Siberia and the Russian Far East. Males have a musk gland that secretes a strong-smelling substance – once valued more than gold and used in perfumery and traditional Eastern medicine.
