Russia's wildlife ABC: Manul
A charming wild cat that lives in uninhabited steppes and mountains.
М – Манул
The Pallas's cat (also known as a manul) is a wild cat with the thickest, fluffiest fur of any feline. It needs this fur to survive harsh winters in Buryatia, Tuva and the Altai Mountains. Its pupils are not slit-like, but round, similar to a human's. Its famous facial expression is one of permanent displeasure. The manul is so slow and cautious that it almost never chases its prey, but, instead, waits motionless in ambush for hours on end.
