A handsome creature in yellow "earflaps" that lives near water.
The common grass snake is the most widespread snake in Russia. It’s easy to recognise by the bright yellow spots on its head. It is non-venomous and completely harmless to humans. The grass snake loves damp places: riverbanks, lakes and marshes. When in danger, it can play dead and it can also hiss and secrete a foul-smelling liquid – a defensive trick that scares off enemies.
