Yekaterinburg
Yekaterinburg is the capital of the Ural region, a contemporary city with a million residents located at the border between Europe and Asia. It’s a city hemmed by forests, ancient mountains and factories, one of the cities deemed to host the Football World Cup in 2018 and in the run to host the EXPO-2020. Yekaterinburg is also a legendary rock-music centre, dotted with statues honouring the likes of Michael Jackson and The Beatles, whose rock festivals attract young fans from all over Russia. History has immortalised Yekaterinburg for offering the background to the murder of the Russian royal family in 1918 and for being the birthplace of Russia’s first President, Boris Yeltsin. Iron produced in the factories of Yekaterinburg has travelled a long way, used to make the framework of the Statue of Liberty and the roof of the Houses of Parliament in London. And Yekaterinburgers don’t seem to have any reason to complain either - Russian business magazine “Company Secrets” states that Yekaterinburg offers the best living and working conditions out of all Russian cities.
