Far East
The Russian Far East is among some of the most difficult destinations to reach, even for experienced travellers. Its attractions, however, are definitely worth the trouble - from the eruptions of its active volcanoes to the turbulent mountain rivers, from the geysers to the breathtaking views of the midnight sun. There are many natural reserves, such as the Ussuriysk reservation, native habitat of the Ussuriysk and Manchurian tiger, animals listed by the Red Book of Endangered Species. Crab meat tasting, whale-watching, diamond and gold-mines tours and permafrost areas explorations are among other must-do activities. The Far East also boasts the status of Russian “Gateway to Asia”, with its inscriptions both in Russian and Chinese characters.
