The soft sign is needed to soften consonants, but is never pronounced itself
There are as many as three soft signs in the words ‘обольстительность’ (‘obolstitelnost’ – ‘seductiveness’) and ‘мультикультурность’(‘multikulturnost’ – ‘multiculturalism’).
This sign does not make a sound on its own, but radically changes the pronunciation of the preceding consonant. In these words, it typically appears after ‘Л’ (‘L’) and‘Т’ (‘T’), denoting softness.
