Why did an Afghan man start learning Russian? (VIDEO)

Shams Abdul Samad came to Russia from Kabul last year and only heard Russian for the first time when he crossed the border.

Shams came to Russia to enroll in the Master's degree program at the MISIS University. In Afghanistan, he was studying engineering at the Polytechnic University founded by Russia and, after much thought, he ventured to come to a country that had many opportunities. So, for eight months, Shams studied Russian at the preparatory department for foreigners. Now, he's studying computer science and plans to stay here to teach mathematics.
