Want to learn Russian, but aren't ready to spend a lot of time? Well, we’ve compiled a bunch of short-term courses, ranging from one week to several months at various Russian universities and schools, that you can enroll at.

Moscow

1/ State Pushkin Russian Language Institute, Moscow

The Pushkin Institute is the country's leading university for studying Russian as foreign language. 

There, you can sign up for individual classes charged hourly or take intensive courses lasting 1, 5 and 10 months.

Furthermore, the Pushkin Institute has a summer school for 1, 2 or 3 months, which can be attended for free via a quota application.

2/ ‘RUDN’ University (Peoples' Friendship University of Russia), Moscow

RUDN leads in the number of international students attending and has a pleasant international atmosphere and vibe.

It offers Russian as a Foreign Language courses, from 2 weeks to a year long, summer and winter schools, as well as corporate training.

3/ Institute of Russian Language and Culture at Moscow State University (MSU

At the country's main university, you can study Russian with courses starting from 4 weeks or choose the duration yourself. There’s also a Summer School held at the university. 

4/ National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), Moscow

The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language offers a 5-week Summer School for international students with a level not lower than B1+, as well as other specialized Russian courses for different levels.

5/ Moscow State Linguistic University

The university offers short-term Russian language courses for foreigners lasting from 2 weeks to 11 months during the academic year (September to June), as well as a Summer Program in July and August.

6/ Russian Language School, Moscow

This specialized school for Russian as a Foreign Language offers flexible study programs. You can start every month and you can choose the duration of study yourself.

7/ ‘Divelang’, Moscow

These Russian language courses offer classes for beginners (levels A1 and A2) in small groups or individually. The first lesson is free and you can determine the duration yourself.

8/ ‘Itec’ language school, Moscow

This school offers courses in Russian as a Foreign Language for all levels. While many teach using the “everything immediately in Russian” principle, here they use English, German, French and Spanish at beginner levels.

9/ ‘Allada’ school, Moscow

This school teaches various foreign languages, including Russian. There are classes for children and adults, as well as for beginner and advanced levels. Emphasis is on preparation for the ‘Test of Russian as a Foreign Language’ (‘TORFL’). The duration of study is determined on the student's needs.

10/’ Language Link’, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara & Cherkessk

The advantage of this school is its large network of branches in different Russian cities. There are individual and group classes; and you choose the duration yourself. The school also prepares students for the ‘TORFL’ exam.

St. Petersburg

11/ St. Petersburg State University

This St. Petersburg university has Russian as a Foreign Language programs of various durations and for all levels. Intensive courses are available from 1-2 weeks, as well as a main course, which runs from 4 to 76 weeks. There are also 2-week winter and summer schools.

12/ ‘Peter the Great’ St. Petersburg Polytechnic University

The St. Petersburg Polytech offers a flexible study program lasting from 2 weeks to a year. Furthermore, a summer thematic art school is available, which lasts 3 weeks during the White Nights season and includes language study.

13/ ‘Liden & Denz’ Russian Language Courses, Moscow & St. Petersburg

This international language institute offers intensive courses starting from 1 week for different language proficiency levels. The courses are designed for foreign employees of Russian companies. You can choose group or individual classes.

14/ ‘Zlatoust’ Russian Language School, Moscow & St. Petersburg

‘Zlatoust’, a leading publisher of Russian as a Foreign Language textbooks, offers in-person classes from 1 to 12 weeks. On the school's website, you can take a free trial lesson and determine your language level.

15/ I class educational group, St. Petersburg

Russian courses for adults and children. Intensive from 2 weeks and a basic course of 4.5 months.

16/ Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, St. Petersburg

The academy offers winter and summer schools, as well as intensives upon student request.

17/ Educacentre, St. Petersburg

Training in mini-groups or individually for any level. You can start year-round; course duration from 1 to 48 weeks. There is a standard course and an intensive course.

18/ Benedict School, St. Petersburg

Group training at the school is designed for 13, 16 and 36 weeks; in the summer period – from 3 weeks. There’s also an opportunity to study specialized vocabulary. And you can purchase a turnkey course, complete with accommodation.

19/ Vinogradov Russian Language Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg

The Vinogradov Institute offers a basic Russian language course designed for 12, 24 or 40 weeks, as well as specialized courses in scientific and business style of speech, lasting 72 academic hours (about 12 weeks).

Central Russia, the Urals

20/ Saratov State University

The university offers summer Russian language school courses from 2 to 8 weeks. By arrangement, individual classes are available at any time.

21/ Volgograd State University

The Preparatory Department for international students offers short-term training courses for interns and master's students, lasting 3-4 months.

22/ South Ural State University, Chelyabinsk

The Preparatory Department for foreign nationals offers short-term courses lasting 2 months, with the possibility to extend the study time. Groups with a zero starting level are also possible.

23/ Udmurt State University, Izhevsk

Intensive Russian as a Foreign Language courses (individually and in a group), preparation for certification exams and short Summer School courses.

24/ Tver State University

The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language offers summer and winter courses of Russian language and culture from 2 to 4 weeks. Students of any age and language level are welcome. Applications can be submitted by email: rki@tversu.ru

Siberia

25/ Novosibirsk State University

The oldest university in Siberia invites you to its Summer School, where, for 4 weeks in Akademgorodok, foreigners of any level can study Russian and participate in cultural programs.

26/ Tomsk Polytechnic University

The Russian Language Department at this Siberian university offers short-term Russian language programs, including for technical specialties, as well as winter and summer schools and internships. Duration is determined after discussion with the applicant.

27/ Omsk State Pedagogical University

Every year, this Siberian university holds 2-week Summer and Winter Russian Language Schools for foreigners. The pedagogical institute also offers internships from a month to a year and a professional retraining program.

28/ Irkutsk State University

The Preparatory Faculty offers Russian as a Foreign Language courses for different levels (from A1 to B2) lasting from 2 to 10 months.

29/ Baikal State University, Irkutsk

The International Faculty of the university offers summer and winter schools for 4-8 weeks in group and individual formats.

30/ Buryat State University, Ulan-Ude

This university offers a large list of courses for international students, preparation for Russian exams, courses for teachers of Russian, as well as summer schools.

South of Russia

31/ Kuban State University, Krasnodar

This university offers summer and winter school courses with intensive classes from 2 to 4 weeks.

32/ Southern Federal University, Rostov-on-Don

There are longer courses for those continuing to learn the language (from 15 weeks), as well as short courses for beginners (from 2-4 weeks). There are also courses in professional Russian and summer schools.

Far East

33/ Pacific National University, Khabarovsk

One of the oldest universities in the Far East offers short-term courses from 1 to 4 weeks. In addition to Russian language classes, students can get acquainted with the university and attend cultural events.

34/ Far Eastern Federal University, Vladivostok

Twice a year, this university enrolls students in programs for learning Russian from scratch. Those who continue can start studying at any time. Courses are available from 1 to 10 weeks.

35/ ‘Simple Smart’, Vladivostok

This educational center offers a 1-week express course for tourists, as well as a 3-month intensive course.
