Russian Language Exported: SOLONETS
A Russian word that has become an international term in soil science.
‘Solonetz’ (English, French: ‘solonetz’, German: ‘Solonetz’) is a type of soil with a high salt content, characteristic of arid steppes. The term was introduced by Russian soil scientists and was adopted into the international classification without translation, much like ‘chernozem’ (black soil). The name derives from the Russian word for ‘salt’ and accurately describes the chemical composition of this soil type.
