To say “on Monday”, “on Tuesday” etc, use the following construction “в + weekday in Accusative case”. Listen to examples and repeat:

1. А: Когда концерт?
В: Концерт в четверг.

A: When is the concert?
B: The concert is on Thursday.

2. У меня встреча в пятницу.
I have a meeting on Friday.

3. Я работаю в среду.
I’m working on Wednesday.

Day of week

When?

понедельник →

в понедельник

вторник →

во вторник

среда́ →

в сре́ду

четверг →

в четверг

пятница →

в пятницу

суббота →

в субботу

воскресенье →

в воскресенье

NOTE!

1. In the Accusative case, feminine nouns change their ending ‘-а’ to ‘-у’, while other nouns don’t change. That’s why ‘среда’, ‘пятница’ and ‘суббота’ have the ‘-у’ ending in collocation with the ‘в’ preposition.

2. When you say “on Wednesday”, you need not only change the ending, but also shift the stress: среда́ → в сре́ду

3. When saying “on Tuesday” we use the ‘во’ preposition - “во вторник”. The ‘в’ preposition turns into ‘во’ before a word starting with two consonants with the first letter either ‘в’ or ‘ф’. For example: “во Владивостоке” (“in Vladivostok”), “во Франции (in France)”, etc.
