Task 1: Listen to the audio & read the dialog

John and Maria enter the hotel late at night.

Maria: Здравствуйте! Можно у вас остановиться на две ночи? На 3-4 июня.
Hello! Can we stay with you for two nights? For 3rd-4th of June.

Receptionist: Да, конечно. Вам нужен один номер?
Yes, of course. Do you need one room?

Maria: Нет, два, пожалуйста.
No, two, please.

Maria: Сколько это стоит?
How much does this cost?

Receptionist: 4 тысячи рублей за ночь.
4,000 rubles per night.

Maria: Хорошо. 
Ok.

Receptionist: Можно ваши паспорта, пожалуйста?  Вы иностранец?
Can I have your passports, please? Are you a foreigner?

John: Да, я из Англии.
Yes, I’m from England.

Receptionist (gives them the keys): Джон – номер 303 и Мария – номер 305. Это третий этаж. Лифт вон там, справа.
John has room number 303 and Maria has room number 305. It’s the third floor. The elevator is over there on the right.

John helps Maria get her things into her room.

John: Какой красивый номер! Окно смотрит в парк.
What a beautiful room! The window looks out onto the park.

Maria: Но небольшой!
But it’s not big!

John: Зато всё есть: шкаф, стол, кресло, тумбочка, стул, кровать.
But it has everything: a wardrobe, a table, an armchair, a nightstand, a chair and a bed.

Maria: А где же холодильник?
Where is the refrigerator?

John: Вон там под столом. Спокойной ночи.
Over there, under the table. Good night.

After a while, John's phone rings. It's Maria.

Maria: Джон, у вас в ванной есть вода?
John, do you have water in your bathroom?

John: Сейчас посмотрю.
I'll take a look now.

A minute later…

John: Вот странно, горячая вода есть, а холодной нет.
It's strange, there is hot water, but no cold water.

Maria: И у меня нет. Я звонила на ресепшн, но никто не отвечает.
I don't have cold water either. I called reception, but no one answered.

John: Давайте я туда пойду.
Let me go there.

John goes downstairs, sees no one behind the counter and cold water streaming across the hall floor. He goes further downstairs and sees that there is a powerful jet of water coming out of a pipe in the utility room, with the receptionist standing there looking confused, until she sees John.

Receptionist: У нас авария!
We’ve had an accident!

John: Нам срочно нужен сантехник!
We urgently need a plumber!

Receptionist: Он заболел.
He got sick.

John: Он у вас только один?
You only have one?

Receptionist: Нет, два. Но второй в отпуске.
No, two. But the second one is on vacation.

John: Инструменты есть? Я сделаю!
Do you have tools? I'll do it!

Receptionist: Есть. А вы можете?
Yes. Can you?

John: Я сантехник по профессии.
I am a plumber by profession.

Receptionist: Надо же! Англичанин и сантехник! 
Oh, wow! An Englishman and a plumber!

An hour later, Maria comes down the hall, unable to get through to anyone. She sees the receptionist and a completely wet John trying to collect water from the floor.

Maria: Что случилось?
What happened?

Receptionist: Ваш Джон герой! И теперь у нас снова есть холодная вода!
Your John is a hero! And now we have cold water again!
