The verb ‘поехать’ (‘to travel/go on something’) is the formed from the verb ‘ехать’ (see Unit 11). It’s mostly used for suggestions (1) and future plans (2):

1. Поедем в Петербург! 
Let's go to St. Petersburg!

2. Летом мы поедем в Сочи на машине.
We’ll go to Sochi in the summer by car.

We learnt a similar verb – ‘пойти’ – in Unit 17. The difference between them is same as between ‘идти’ and ‘ехать’. Compare:

Завтра я пойду в театр.
I will go to the theater tomorrow.

Завтра я поеду в Сочи.
Tomorrow, I will go to Sochi.
