It's September, a beautiful old building stands in the center of Moscow. A young Japanese woman and a 12-year-old girl get out of a taxi. They have many suitcases. They go up to the sixth floor and ring the doorbell of apartment number 72. A plump elderly woman opens the door.
MP: Здравствуйте!
Hello! Who are you here to see?
To see you! You are Margarita Pavlovna, right?
MP: Да, это я…
Yes, it’s me…
Akiko:
And you have a son named Lev?
Oh, you're here to see Lev? You're his student? But, he's not at home, he's working on television.
I didn't call him, I wanted to surprise him!
I don't understand anything. But, come on in! You can tell me everything.
Thank you! My name is Akiko and this is my daughter Yuki. Lev said we could stay with you for a while when we come to Moscow.
MP: А!
Ah! You're probably his colleague from Japan? He was recently there on a year-long business trip. Come into the living room. Shall we have tea or coffee? We have cake. Or, maybe, let’s have lunch?
Yes, we met in Tokyo. Lev told me a lot about you. You're a famous theater critic and a wonderful person. Lev looks a lot like you. And he didn't tell you anything about me?
Oh, sorry, I don’t remember, he probably did… But, I have a bad memory!
I'm a translator and came to Moscow to study for graduate school. And Yuki dreams of becoming a ballerina and dancing at the Bolshoi Theater.
MP: Как интересно!
How interesting! Are you married?
Akiko: Да.
Yes.
Where is your husband? Is he in Japan now?
The doorbell rings. Margarita Pavlovna opens the door. It's Lev.
(quietly to Lev) Кто это?
Lev, two beautiful girls have come to see you. (quietly to Lev) Who are they? You didn't tell me anything!
Lev looks embarrassed and remains silent. Akiko approaches.
Lev, we're here! I wanted to surprise you! But, your mom doesn't know anything about me?
I wanted to tell her, but there was no time.
MP: Что сказать?
How to say it?
