работать в саду
to work in the garden

сажать цветы

гулять в лесу
to take a walk in the forest

собирать грибы

жарить шашлыки*

ловить рыбу

загорать

плавать в реке*
to swim in the river

* NOTE!

1) Shashlik is pieces of meat marinated and grilled on skewers over an open fire.

2) In colloquial Russian, people often use the diminutive form ‘речка’ instead of ‘река’. The word ‘речка’ sounds more informal, friendly and natural in everyday speech, especially when talking about a small river or a place where people relax. For example:

  • плавать в речке (to swim in the river)
  • ходить на речку (to go to the river)
