This ancient settlement in the Caucasus only recently officially received ‘city’ status.
The city of Oyskhara in Chechnya is now considered the youngest in Russia. It will soon turn two years old.
The former settlement officially received ‘city’ status on January 1, 2024, due to its growing population. Today, more than 19,000 people live there. The city has three schools, a cultural center, a sports complex and a Juma mosque.
The settlement was first mentioned in 1732, but had a different name – Oysungur. In Soviet times, it had the status of a ‘village’. Meanwhile, it received its current name in 1989.
