What’s inside the luxurious Italian Pavilion of the Ostankino Estate? (PHOTOS)
The wing of Count Sheremetev’s Moscow estate has reopened to the public after 13 years of restoration.
Count Nikolai Sheremetev lived in the 18th century and was a major statesman, but he is mostly remembered as a great lover of art and theater.
He owned the luxurious suburban Kuskovo Estate and an equally luxurious wooden palace in Moscow – Ostankino.
The western part of this palace is known as the ‘Italian Pavilion’ and its decor is breathtaking. Ancient sculptures, gilding, stucco molding, vaulted ceilings, ceiling panels and chandeliers.
Restorers spent many years painstakingly restoring everything down to the authentic fittings and their particular pride is that they were able to restore the original 18th-century French wallpaper.
The pavilion has a grand reception hall, around the perimeter of which four study rooms are located.
In 2025, the Egyptian Pavilion, the eastern wing of the palace, was reopened after restoration. And the central part is scheduled to be completed by 2028.
