1. АНТОН ЧЕХОВ (Anton Chekhov)

The famous Russian writer and playwright was born in Taganrog on January 29, 1860. He spent his childhood and youth there and he returned periodically throughout his life. A street and an embankment, a library and a theater, as well as Gymnasium No. 2, the oldest educational institution in the South of Russia, in the city are named after Chekhov.
2. КАМЕННАЯ ЛЕСТНИЦА (Stone Staircase)

This 113-meter stone staircase that leads to the embankment on the shore of the Sea of Azov was built in 1823 according to the design of Italian architect Franz Boffo. Chekhov, Tchaikovsky, Pushkin and Garibaldi all descended its steps at one point. And, during the Crimean War in 1855, a battle between British soldiers and Russian Cossacks unfolded on it.
3. ДВОРЕЦ АЛФЕРАКИ (Alferaki Palace)

Built in 1848, the palace of landowner and merchant Nikolai Alferaki was the center of the city's cultural life. Evening balls were regularly held there, to which only high society was invited. The interior decoration amazed guests with its wealth and luxury. Today, the palace houses a local history museum.
