It’s one of the country's most important industrial centers and Chelyabinsk Region is also famous for its diverse natural landscape. Here are three of its main symbols.

1. ГРУЗОВИК «УРАЛ» (‘Ural’ Truck)

‘Ural’ trucks have been manufactured in the town of Miass, Chelyabinsk Region, since 1941. These powerful and reliable vehicles are used to transport cargo and people in off-road conditions and harsh climates. They’re widely used in the military, agriculture and construction. And due to their reliability, ‘Urals’ can also be found in dozens of countries around the world.

2. ЧЕЛЯБИНСКИЙ МЕТЕОРИТ (Chelyabinsk Meteorite)

This meteorite put Chelyabinsk Region on the world map. Its diameter was approximately 18 meters and its mass was a whopping 11,000 tons! On February 15, 2013, the meteorite entered the Earth's atmosphere and disintegrated near Chelyabinsk at an altitude of 23 km (75,500 ft.). According to NASA estimates, it’s the largest known celestial body to have fallen to Earth in the last 100 years.

3. ЧЕРНАЯ МЕТАЛЛУРГИЯ (Ferrous Metallurgy)

Ferrous metallurgy is one of the most important sectors of heavy industry in Russia. One of its centers is the city of Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, home to the country's largest metallurgical plant. Therefore, it's no surprise that the local football, ice hockey and basketball clubs are all named ‘Metallurg’ (‘Metallurgist’).
