A foundational Russian poet, translator and literary critic, Vasily Zhukovsky (1783-1852) was the author of the classic Russian translation of Homer's ‘Odyssey’. In his own poems, he focused on themes of the soul, deep emotions and the beauty of nature.
He also acted as a generous mentor and close friend to Alexander Pushkin, helping to shape the career of Russia's greatest poet.
