It's not for nothing that the great Russian poet is called the creator of the modern Russian language.

In the mid-20th century, Russia published the ‘Dictionary of Pushkin's Language’, a work that philologists had been compiling for decades. After analyzing all of the poet's works, the compilers included about 21,000 words in the dictionary.

Today, it’s believed that the average vocabulary of an educated person is about 10,000 words, with only about 2,000 words in active use.
