Andrei Rublev (c.1360-1430) is considered to be the most revered master of Russian icon painting, canonized as a saint by the Orthodox Church. His supreme masterpiece, ‘The Trinity’, became the absolute artistic standard for centuries, defining all subsequent Orthodox iconography. He worked alongside the great master Theophanes the Greek in Moscow's Annunciation Cathedral and co-created the frescoes of the Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir.
