It’s the main political, economic and cultural center of Russia and also the country's largest and most populous city. Here are three of its main symbols.
1. МОСКОВСКИЙ КРЕМЛЬ (Moscow Kremlin)
The Moscow Kremlin is the heart not only of the capital, but of all of Russia. It’s home to the official residence of the country's president. The word ‘kremlin’ itself is often used as a symbol of state power. Furthermore, within this ancient fortress, you can visit numerous churches and museums, as well as attend pop or classical music concerts.
2. МОСКОВСКОЕ МЕТРО (Moscow Metro)
This is the longest subway system in Europe, with over 480 km of lines. It boasts the shortest rush hour intervals in the world, averaging just 90 seconds! It's also a veritable underground museum. Decorated with mosaics, sculptures and stained glass, the stations vividly and thoroughly tell the story of Russia's history and culture.
3. БОЛЬШОЙ ТЕАТР (Bolshoi Theater)
This is Russia's premier theater and every premiere staged there is a monumental event in the country's cultural life. The Bolshoi is also among the world's leading theaters and tours by its orchestra and ballet company are extremely popular abroad. The theater building is even depicted on the 100-ruble banknote.
