Russian Language Exported: SAMOVAR
It’s a symbol of Russian tea culture that needs no translation. In Iran, however, it is widely considered their own.
The word ‘samovar’, meaning ‘self‑boiler’, is known in many languages around the world as an object of Russian daily life. But, in Persian, the word has become an integral part of Iranian culture, just like the object itself. In the mid‑19th century, Nasreddin Shah brought several samovars from Russia – as curiosities. Later, local craftsmen set up their own production, decorating them with Oriental patterns – a tradition that has survived to this day.
