Handwritten Russian looks VERY different from printed text! (VIDEO)

The most Russian American, Tim Kirby, invites you to play a game and guess what words he wrote down...

People always say Russia is a land of contradictions, well… printed Russian letters are super clear, easy to read and powerfully boxy in appearance… Russian in handwritten form is… the opposite.

The thing is that common letters like И, Ш, М and Л look very similar when written by pen. They kind of all just like U in handwritten English.

So for those who have studied some Russian can you guess these words?

  • мишки – bears
  • шишки – pine cones
  • лилии – lilies
  • лишили – deprived, this the the word you’d use if the police took away your driver’s license :/
  • шиншилла – chinchilla

Because of the education system, if an average Russian person writes something for you on paper it will be in cursive 90% of the time.

Seriously, so there is no way to truly avoid handwritten Russian, no matter how hard you’d want to! Even though printed letters are so vastly superior!
