How to start SPEAKING Russian! (VIDEO)

Been learning the language for a while, but still can't break the barrier? The most Russian American, Tim Kirby, offers some handy tips!

First of all, learn phrases, not separate words.

  • Привет! Меня зовут Тим, а как тебя?

(Hi, my name is Tim, what’s your name?)

  • Я родился в Америке, но живу в России. А откуда ты родом?

(I was born in America but live in Russia. Where are you from?)

Remember a couple of phrases that can be handy in real life.

  • Сколько это стоит?

(How much does it cost?)

  • Как пройти к метро?

(How can I get to the metro?)

Secondly, it really helps to listen anything in Russian.

Podcasts, reels, shorts, TV shows and old Soviet movies with subtitles. The more you hear real life phrases, the faster you’ll start speaking.

You can even stop the video and repeat some phrases….

And last but not least, just start speaking.

Right away. Don’t be afraid of mistakes. Russians usually are amazed that a foreigner speaks their language, and will try to understand you and help you anyway.
