Kislovodsk in 3 Russian words
This is one of the country's leading balneological (the science of bath therapy) resorts, with sunny weather approximately 300 days a year. Here are three of its main symbols.
1. НАРЗАННАЯ ГАЛЕРЕЯ (Narzan Gallery)
The gallery around the Narzan mineral water spring in Kislovodsk opened in 1853. It’s one of the city's oldest architectural landmarks. There, you can not only try three types of healing water, but also relax and stroll through spacious halls decorated with fountains and statues.
2. КАСКАДНАЯ ЛЕСТНИЦА (Cascade Staircase)
This is one of Kislovodsk's calling cards. The 20-meter staircase with 170 steps, decorative pools, trickling waterfalls and an antique-style colonnade is a favorite meeting place for both locals and tourists.
3. ДАЧА ШАЛЯПИНА (Chaliapin's Dacha)
Famous Russian opera singer Feodor Chaliapin rented a dacha in Kislovodsk in Summer 1917. During this brief period, it became the center of the city's cultural life, attracting the musical bohemian crowd and hosting impromptu concerts. In 1982, the house was converted into the Chaliapin Museum, which remains open to this day.
