Although many countries have their own versions of pancakes, ‘blini’ specifically refers to the Russian variety.
‘Blini’ (English, German, French, Spanish ‘blini’) is an international culinary term. Unlike French ‘crêpes’ and American ‘pancakes’, Russian ‘blini’ are yeast-based, thin and usually have a sweet or savoury filling. In European languages, the word has become established in its plural form.
