In Russian, yes/no questions are formed very simply. You don't need to change the word order or add an auxiliary verb like in English. You just need to change the intonation - a rise in tone like in the following examples:

Это Джон.     →     Это Джон?
This is John.       Is this John?

Он врач.           →  Он врач?
He is a doctor.   Is he a doctor?

You answer to yes/no questions like this:

A: Это Джон?
Is this John?

B: Да, это Джон.
Yes, this is John.

C: Нет, это не Джон. Это Роберт.
No, this isn’t John. This is Robert.

Task 1: Read with a question (rising) intonation. Listen to the audio to check if you did it correctly. Repeat after the audio

1. Вы журналист?
Are you a journalist?

2. Они студенты?
Are they students?

3. Вы Роберт?
Are you Robert?

4. Это сок?
Is this juice?

5. Это печенье?
Is this a cookie?
