In Unit 1, we learnt the possessive pronoun ‘my’ – ‘мой’. Actually, Russian possessive pronouns agree with the nouns in gender, number and case. ‘Мой’ is the masculine singular form in the Nominative case. The feminine form is ‘моя’. Listen to the audio and read the examples:

1. Мой папа врач. Моя мама тоже врач.
My dad is a doctor. My mom is a doctor, too.

2. Я инженер. Мой брат тоже инженер.
I’m an engineer. My brother is an engineer, too.

3. Я студентка. Моя сестра тоже студентка.
I’m a student. My sister is a student, too.

4. Это мой друг Олег.
This is my friend Oleg.

5. Это моя подруга. Она журналист.
This is my friend. She’s a journalist.

NOTE! In Russian, there are two words with the meaning ‘friend’. ‘Друг’ is a male friend and ‘подруга’ is a female friend (Though ‘друг’ can also be used to refer to women in some cases).
