When talking about location, we use the preposition ‘в’ and a noun in Prepositional case. Here is the basic rule:
Prepositional case ( -е ending)
Masculine | Feminine | Neuter |
банк → в банке театр → в театре музей → в музее отель → в отеле | аптека → в аптеке школа → в школе | посольство → в посольстве (embassy) море → в море (sea) ☝Exception метро → в метро (doesn’t change) |
☝Exception: дома = at home
NOTE!
For masculine nouns:
1) You add the ending ‘-е’ to masculine nouns with consonants on the end.
2) If masculine nouns end in ‘-й’ and ‘-ь’, you change the last letter to ‘-е’.
For feminine and neuter nouns:
You change the ending to ‘-е’.
