LESSON 7: ‘В МУЗЕЕ’ VS ‘НА УЛИЦЕ’

The preposition ‘на’ is also used with the nouns that refer to open spaces or complexes of buildings (or that historically are associated with them). For example:

1. Я сейчас на почте. А ты где?
I’m currently at the post office. And where are you?

2. В субботу мы были на рынке.
On Saturday, we were at the market.

3. В среду я был на стадионе, смотрел  матч.
On Wednesday, I was at the stadium and watched a match.

Here are some of such nouns:

улица

street

площадь

square

стадион

stadium

почта

post office

рынок

market

NOTE! “На улице” means not only “on the street”, but also “outside”. For example:

1. Мы были в кафе на улице Арбат.
We were in a cafe on Arbat Street.

2. Дети играют на улице.
Children are playing outside.

3. На улице холодно.
It is cold outside.
