In Unit 4, we’ve already learnt the basic rule for the Prepositional case of nouns. Let’s review and broaden it.
Prepositional case | ||
Masculine | Feminine | Neuter |
Лондон → в Лондоне музей → в музее отель → в отеле
| аптека → в аптеке Россия → в России Сибирь → в Сибири
| посольство → в посольстве (embassy) занятие → на занятии ☝Exception |
NOTE!
For masculine nouns:
1) You add the ‘-е’ ending to masculine nouns with consonants at the end.
2) If masculine nouns end in ‘-й’ and ‘-ь’, you change the last letter to ‘-е’.
For feminine & neuter nouns:
1) You change the ending to ‘-е’.
2) If a noun ends in ‘-ия’, ‘-ие’ or ‘ь’, you change the last letter to the ‘-и’ ending.
3) Some neuter nouns don’t change.
