Note!
If the adjective has ‘-ой’ ending, the ending is stressed: второ́й, шесто́й, седьмо́й, восьмо́й.
Ordinal numbers agree with the noun in gender, number and case like adjectives:
Masculine | Это восьмой урок. |
Feminine | Это моя первая машина. |
Neuter | Это наше второе свидание. |
Note!
If it is a compound number, only the last word agrees with the noun in gender and number:
А: Какой у тебя номер?
B: Сто пятьдесят седьмой.
A: What is your room number?
B: It’s 157.
Below are some examples of situations in which you will need to use ordinal numbers:
1. A: Какой это этаж?
B: Это пятый этаж.
A: What floor is this?
B:This is the fifth floor.
2. A: Какой это автобус?
B: Это тридцать первый автобус.
A: Which bus is this?
B: It’s bus number 31.
3. A: Какое у вас место?
B: У меня седьмое место.
A: What seat are you in?
B: I’m in seat 7.
4. A: Какое сегодня число?
B: Сегодня второе января.
A: What date is it today?
B:Today is January 2.
