Compare to examples:

1. Я работаю там.
I’m working there.

2. Я иду туда.
I’m going there.

In English, we use the same word ‘there’ when talking about both location and direction. While, in Russian, you need to use different words: ‘там’ (for location) and ‘туда’ (for direction).

Below are other pairs of adverbs with the same difference:

Location
(Где?)

Direction
(Куда?)

here

здесь/тут

сюда

there

там

туда

home

дома (at home)

домой (to go home)
