Here are some verbs to talk about relationships. Listen to the audio & repeat

познакомиться (perf)  to get acquainted, to meet

встречаться (imp)  to date, to be in relationship

расстаться (perf) to break up

пожениться (perf) to get married

развестись (perf) to get divorced

NOTE! 

1) The literal meaning of the verb ‘встречаться’ is ‘to meet with someone’, but it also means ‘to date someone’.

2) The verbs ‘познакомиться’, ‘встречаться’, ‘расставаться’, ‘развестись’ are used with preposition ‘c’ + Instrumental case. Review the Instrumental case forms of the nouns in the next lesson (ссылка на следующий урок). For example:

1. Я встречаюсь с Настей только месяц.
I've only been dating Nastya for a month.

2. Александр сказал, что хочет развестись с женой.
Alexander said that he wants to divorce his wife.

Let’s learn how to form the past tense of reflexive verbs:

*NOTE!

After a vowel, use ‘-сь’.

1. Я познакомился с Верой на вечеринке.
I got acquainted with Vera at a party.

2. Мы встречались 2 года, потом поженились.
We were dating for 2 years and then we got married.

3. Я рассталась с парнем вчера.
I broke up with my boyfriend yesterday.

The verb ‘развестись’ has a special conjugation. Here are its past tense forms:

1. Мои родители развелись.
My parents got divorced.

2. Мой брат развёлся с женой.
My brother divorced his wife.

• три месяца назад – three months ago
• идти – running time (about TV series, TV shows, movies, etc.)
• Всё только начинается – It’s all just beginning
• серия – episode
• целоваться / поцеловаться – to kiss
• бразильский – Brazilian
• может быть – maybe
• вышла замуж за другого – she married another man
• снова – once more/again
