We use the words ‘через’ and ‘назад’ to talk about time in relation to the present moment:

• через = in … (from now) → refers to the future, counting forward from now.
• назад = … ago → refers to the past, counting backward from now.

How to use these words:

• через + [time period in Accusative]

1. Я закончу университет через год.
I will finish university in a year.

2. Позвоните мне через неделю.
Call me in a week.

• [time period in Accusative] + назад

1. Мы познакомились месяц назад.
We met a month ago.

2. Я видел его в офисе минуту назад.
I saw him in the office a minute ago.
