Small documentaries reflecting the vibe of different nations have become their calling cards gaining millions of views.

Director James Mitchal Fenwick is the creator of the ‘Born from Culture’ project. He first filmed New Zealand’s Māori and then Georgian people and uploaded videos in his social media, accompanied with the song ‘Mask Off’ by rapper ‘Future’.

Colorful ethnic beauty, traditional costumes, dances and local landscape, in combination with modern footage, video editing and hip-hop beats immediately got millions of views.

And then, the magic happened, as ‘Born from Culture’ went far beyond a private channel and became a global trend. And all the post-Soviet space joined in: Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan also made similar short video documentaries, praising their cultures.

In Russia, several peoples and ethnic groups also created their own videos.

For example, the video about the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) got 4.5 million views on Instagram. It was filmed with the participance of the local ‘Gulun’ dance ensemble in a sacred land called Yc Khatyn.

The Republic of Tuva was represented by their local orchestra, also in fancy traditional attire.

Crimean Tatars filmed the ‘Miras’ dance ensemble on the backdrop of authentic local landscape, while showcasing the local sewing handicraft.

Bashkir folk also joined the trend, putting together the most colorful shots of their traditional costumes and dances.

The Circassian people, meanwhile, made their own AI version of the trend. Though the commenters were sure a real video would work better.

And there is another AI-generated video about Russia as a whole, as a multinational country.

In Yakutia, one village decided to join the trend, without resorting to making an “official” video with a complicated production and filming. Just a normal day in a village, showcasing their own culture and life. And this video has also got half a million views.
