‘Chak-chak’: The most famous Tatar sweet pastry

Everyone in Russia goes crazy over ‘chak-chak’, a candy originally from the Republic of Tatarstan. Lots of pieces of crunchy, deep-fried dough are generously soaked in sweet honey syrup – that’s how traditional ‘chak-chak’ is made.
In the Tatar language, ‘chak-chak’ means ‘a little bit’ or ‘small’: perhaps, it’s all about the small pieces of dough from which the candy is made. But, some believe that the name resembles the sound of a knife cutting through a piece of crispy dough.

There is a beautiful legend that Tatar Khan asked his chefs to make a new dessert for his son’s wedding. And chose this one out of numerous other options. That's why it's considered to be a kind of ritual dessert that was cooked for major celebrations and weddings. Though, now, it can be found in any grocery store in Russia.
Be careful, as it's impossible to stop eating ‘chak-chak’!
