At Moscow’s Research Institute of the Baking Industry (yep, it’s a thing!), a special bread just for space is being produced! So, what makes it different?

1. ‘Space bread’ is small in size

The idea is that the cosmonaut doesn't bite it, but, instead, puts the whole piece into their mouth. This avoids the danger of crumbs floating around the space station in zero gravity.

2. It stays “fresh” for 15 whole months!

The freshness is preserved, thanks to double-layer packaging and special, nearly sterile, production conditions. The bread also contains no food additives.

3. Its shape resembles a traditional Russian loaf

The producers decided to keep this shape, so the bread reminds the cosmonauts of life back on Earth.
