What are the names for fingers in Russian? (VIDEO)

Did you know Russians can't say 'thumbs up'? Their fingers have totally different names! The most Russian American, Tim Kirby, explains...
  • Russians call a thumb ‘big finger’ (‘большой палец’).
  • Forefinger would be translated into Russian as ‘Index finger’ - ‘указательный палец’,
  • The middle finger has the same definition (‘средний палец’)
  • The ring finger is called ‘unnamed’ – ‘безымянный палец’. (though Russians put a ring on it too)
  • And for a ‘little finger’ Russians have one specific word, ‘мизинец’.

(By the way Russians don’t have toes, they call it пальцы too!)
