Let’s learn new verbs, firstly their imperfective forms. Listen to the audio & repeat:

писать to write	звонить to call	забывать to forget
покупать  to buy	опаздывать to be late	встречать to meet

• ‘Звонить’ is a second-conjugation verb and it changes in the same pattern as the verb ‘говорить’.
• ‘Забывать’, ‘покупать’, ‘опаздывать’ and ‘встречать’ are first-conjugation verbs and change in the same pattern as the verb ‘работать’.
• ‘Писать’ is also a first-conjugation verb, but it has special conjugation model for present tense.

Here are some examples: 

1. Почему ты не звонишь?
Why aren’t you calling?

2. Бабушка часто забывает телефон дома.
Grandma often forgets her phone at home.

3. Мой друг пишет книги.
My friend writes books. 

4. Дети пишут сочинение.
The children are writing an essay.
