1. A: Я думаю, что балет - это скучно.
В: Я не согласен. Это очень красиво и интересно. Я часто смотрю балет.
A: I think that ballet is boring.
B: I don’t agree. It’s very beautiful and interesting. I often go to watch ballet.
2. Такси будет через 5 минут. Ты готов?
The taxi will be here in 5 minutes. Are you ready?
3. Я рад, что ты позвонил.
I’m glad that you called.
4. А: Ты занят в пятницу?
В: Нет, я свободен.
A: Are you busy on Friday?
B: No, I’m free.
The words marked in bold font look like verbs, but, in fact, they are short-form adjectives. In Unit 9, we already learnt ‘согласен’ (‘agree’). Here are the meanings of the other ones:
- готов - ready
- рад - glad
- занят - busy
- свободен - free
Short-form adjectives describe state of being and are used only as predicative adjectives. They agree with the noun in gender in number.

В: Курица уже готова. Сейчас сделаю ещё салат.
A: Is dinner ready yet?
B: The chicken is ready. I’ll make a salad now.
2. Я рада, что работаю здесь.
I’m glad that I’m working here.
3. А: Вы готовы работать в выходные?
В: Извините, я не могу работать в выходные.
A: Are you ready to work on the weekend?
B: Excuse me, I can’t work on the weekend.
