Let’s learn new verbs. Listen to the audio & repeat:

танцевать to dance	рисовать to draw	фотографировать to take a photo	путешествовать to travel	петь to sing

These verbs are first-conjugation verbs and have special conjugation models in the present tense.

1. Verbs in -овать/-евать

When you make present tense forms of these verbs, you need to change the suffixes ‘-ова-’ or ‘-ева-’ to ‘-у-’ like in the table below:  

1. Что ты рисуешь?
What are you drawing?

2. Я много путешествую.
I travel a lot.

3. Мы фотографируем горы.
We are taking photos of the mountains.

4. Она хорошо танцует.
She dances very well.

2. Verb ‘петь’

In the present tense, ‘петь’ changes its stem and has the same set of endings like the verbs ‘вставать’.

1. Вы так красиво поёте!
You sing so beautifully!

2. Мои дети поют в хоре.
My kids sing in the choir.

3. Past tense  

The past tense forms of these verbs are formed in a regular way:

• танцевать → он танцевал (-ла, -ли)
• рисовать → он рисовал (-ла, -ли)
• фотографировать → он фотографировал (-ла, -ли)
• путешествовать → он путешествовал (-ла, -ли)
• петь → он пел (-ла, -ли)

1. Вчера мы весь вечер пели и танцевали в караоке. 
Yesterday we sang and danced at karaoke all evening.

2. Раньше я много путешествовал.
I used to travel a lot.
