The verb 'прийти' means 'to come', 'to arrive'. Originally, it comes from the combination of the prefix ‘при-’ and the verb ‘идти’.

1. Он не может прийти. У него болит нога.
He can't come. His leg hurts.

2. Во сколько вы придёте?
At what time will you come?

‘Прийти’ is a perfective verb. Thus, it has only the future and past tense forms. The conjugation of the verb ‘прийти’ is very similar to ‘идти’. Listen to the audio & repeat out loud:

Listen to the audio & repeat the examples:

1. Ты придёшь на вечеринку?
Will you come to the party?

2. Он вчера не пришёл на встречу, потому что заболел.
He didn’t come to the meeting yesterday, because he was sick.

NOTE!

The verbs ‘прийти’ and ‘приехать’ both mean ‘to come’, ‘to arrive’. But ‘прийти’ means ‘to come on foot’, while ‘приехать’ means ‘to arrive by transport’. In everyday speech, ‘прийти’ can refer to going somewhere in general, without emphasizing the means of transport.

  • Я пришёл в офис пешком.

I came to the office on foot. (on foot → пришёл)

  • Я приехал в офис на такси.

I came to the office by taxi. (by transport → приехал)

  • Я пришёл в офис в 9.

I came to the office at 9 am. (maybe on foot or another way, it doesn't matter, the focus is on the arrival → пришёл)

  • Я приехал в офис в 9 утра.

I came to the office at 9 am. (here also focus is on arrival, but ‘приехал’ implies arrival by vehicle).
