According to the Russia’s Ministry of Health, nearly 60,000 international students from 160 countries are currently studying medical professions in Russia and this number is constantly growing. And more than 1,000 study programs are available across different universities.

1. I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University)

This is considered to be the oldest and most prestigious medical university in the country. It has about 120 departments, offering not only fundamental medical education in many specialities, but also training in the latest technologies.

2. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (Pirogov University), Moscow

This is the only medical university in Russia that has been granted the category ‘National Research University’. It also offers a double degree program and provides preparatory courses for international students with intensive Russian language and medical terminology training.

3. The First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg (Pavlov University)

This university has over 100 years of history, having grown out of the first women's medical institute in Russia. International students can also apply for distance preparatory courses.

4. The St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University (The Pediatric University)

This is the only university in Russia focused exclusively on pediatrics. Over 2,000 international students from 50 countries have graduated from it. The university even has its own hospital, which also invites international specialists for internships.

This university grew out of the medical faculty of Kazan University, one of the oldest and most respected in Russia. Many medical schools that originated there were recognised in Europe. International students are offered a wide range of programs, including postgraduate studies.

This is a world-renowned research university of biomedical sciences. “A university of technologies for health and quality of life,” is how this Siberian university describes itself and is one of the few that also has its own clinic.
