The Moscow Metro’s most beautiful stations: ‘Arbatskaya’ (PHOTOS)
This is one of the longest (220 m) and deepest (41 m) stations in the capital's subway.
This station on the blue ‘Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya’ (Dark Blue) Line opened in 1953. The architect was Leonid Polyakov, who also designed one of the Stalinist skyscrapers.
While waiting for the train, you find yourself in a hall with an entire gallery of fanciful arches.
The walls are adorned with floral bouquet statues. The stucco work was made by monumental artist Maria Engelke.
The décor was inspired by 17th-century Moscow architecture with its Baroque elements.
The station's name refers to the nearby Arbat Street, one of the most popular streets among tourists.
‘Arbatskaya’ has transfers to three other stations that lead directly to the Moscow Kremlin.
