The Moscow Metro’s most beautiful stations: ‘Novosloboskaya’ (PHOTOS)
‘Novoslobodskaya’ station on the Circle (Brown) Line was opened in 1952.
Architects Alexey Dushkin and Alexander Strelkov intended to build “something fairy-tale and decorative”.
And that is exactly what happened: while waiting for the train, passengers find themselves as if in a magical fairy-tale chamber. The arches in the shape of ‘kokoshnik’ headwear are framed with elegant golden gilding. The entire hall, meanwhile, is faced with beige marble.
On the floor, granite slabs are laid out in a black-and-white checkerboard pattern.
The station's crowning adornment is its 32 illuminated stained-glass window panels, made from sketches by artist Pavel Korin.
They feature patterns of whimsical plants, radiant flowers and elaborate vases.
Some panels are also decorated with medallions depicting representatives of various professions. For example, a geographer…
…or a power engineer…
…or an artist…
…or a musician.
And some window panels are decorated with grandiose stars.
The stained-glass window panels were made by artists from Latvian SSR using colored glass that had been produced for Catholic churches.
